Virtual IOP in Florida

Start your road to recovery in a comfortable, serene, and compassionate space. Bright Futures Treatment Center offers you the opportunity to make a fresh start.

The Bright Futures VIOP Program (Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program) is our Florida-only telehealth intensive outpatient program, offered in three tracks (5, 4, or 3 days a week), run over 90 days across three 30-day levels. It’s led by the same licensed clinical team behind our in-person programs, accepts MAT on a case-by-case basis, includes virtual medical appointments, and uses at-home mouth-swab drug testing to maintain accountability remotely. Private pay rates run $500–$1,500/week, and we accept most major insurance plans, excluding Medicare, Medicaid, and Aflac.

Getting sober, or staying sober, shouldn’t have to mean choosing between treatment and the rest of your life. For a lot of people in Florida, the idea of intensive outpatient care sounds right, but the logistics don’t: childcare, a job that won’t bend, a long drive after a full day. Bright Futures Treatment Center built its Virtual IOP Florida program to close that gap, bringing the same clinical model used at its Boynton Beach facility into a virtual format that fits around real schedules, not the other way around.

What Is the Bright Futures Virtual IOP Program?

The Bright Futures VIOP Program is a telehealth version of addiction treatment in Florida. It’s intensive outpatient care delivered with the same level of clinical structure and the same staff as our in-person programs, just through secure video sessions instead. We make it available to anyone located in Florida, regardless of which city or county they live in. This makes it a realistic option for people in areas where intensive treatment simply isn’t available nearby.

We run the program over 90 days total, broken into three 30-day levels, instead of a single fixed-length block. We built it this way because recovery needs typically change over the course of treatment. A patient often needs the most support in the first 30 days. Then gradually needs less direct supervision as routines stabilize. Additionally, every patient also completes a psychiatric evaluation at intake, so we establish the clinical picture before treatment begins, not piece it together later.

How Many Days a Week Is Virtual IOP in Florida?

Not everyone needs, or can commit to, the same level of intensity. For them, we offer Virtual IOP in three tracks. Each track meets Monday through Friday during the same evening hours. The only difference between them is how many of those nights a patient attends.

TrackDurationIndividual Sessions
5-Day Virtual IOP (5 days Mon–Fri) 3 hours/day, 6–9 PM for 30 days 1 hour/week
4-Day Virtual IOP (4 days Mon–Fri) 3 hours/day, 6–9 PM for for 30 days 1 hour/week
3-Day Virtual IOP (3 days Mon–Fri) 3 hours/day, 6–9 PM for for 30 days 1 hour/week

All three tracks include a weekly one-on-one session with a licensed therapist, regardless of how many group nights a patient attends. Most patients move through all three levels over the full 90-day program. They also typically step down in frequency as they build stability, though their care team determines the right pace based on individual progress.

What Does a Typical Week of Virtual IOP Look Like?

A scheduled week in our Virtual IOP program is built around three nightly group blocks, with individual and family support layered in as needed:

  • Group therapy — held in three one-hour blocks each evening (6–7 PM, 7–8 PM, 8–9 PM), so patients attend the number of blocks their track calls for
  • Individual sessions — one hour per week, one-on-one with a licensed therapist
  • Family sessions and medical one-on-one appointments — scheduled as part of a patient’s individualized treatment plan

We add groups to a patient’s schedule throughout the week via SMS or email through the platform. So there’s no need to memorize a fixed weekly calendar in advance.

How Does Virtual IOP Work?

We run our Virtual IOP program through Upheal, a secure telehealth platform used for both scheduling and live group and individual sessions. Patients need only a phone or a laptop and a stable internet connection to participate. There is no need for specialized equipment or software experience.

Intake starts with a virtual assessment, followed by onboarding paperwork that we send by email through DocuSign. The entire admissions process can be completed without an in-person visit. Once enrolled, we send a patient’s weekly schedule directly to them. Sessions are joined the same way each time, through the same platform link. In practice, most of our patients have their first group session within days of completing intake, since there’s no facility tour or in-person paperwork to schedule around.

What Treatment Approaches Are Used in Virtual IOP in Florida?

We use the same addiction therapies and clinical approach in Virtual IOP as we do in our in-person programs, just delivered through telehealth. The only thing that changes is the format, not the quality or depth of care.

Our sessions are led by licensed therapists and group facilitators holding a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) credential — the same staff who run our in-person programs. We maintain a 10-to-1 staff-to-patient ratio, kept deliberately low so our therapists can track individual progress closely even in a virtual group setting, rather than letting patients become anonymous faces on a screen. Medically assisted treatment or MAT is available on a case-by-case basis for patients who need it, alongside virtual medical appointments as part of the treatment plan.

Does Virtual IOP Treat Mental Health Conditions Too?

Yes. We treat substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions through integrated programming, consistent with our dual diagnosis approach. Our group sessions also include group therapy focused on shared recovery experience, alongside the individual and family components built into every track.

How Do You Stay Accountable in a Virtual Program?

One of the most common questions about virtual treatment is how accountability works without anyone physically present. We address this directly with virtual drug testing. Mouth swab kits are mailed to the patient’s home. This way, our clinical team can monitor sobriety remotely without requiring an in-person visit. We use mouth swabs specifically because they can be self-administered accurately on camera during a session, which isn’t realistic with urine testing in a telehealth setting. This keeps the structure and accountability of in-person testing intact, even though the program itself is fully virtual.

Who Is Virtual IOP Right For?

Virtual IOP tends to be the right fit for people who need a genuine, intensive level of care but have real obligations that make in-person attendance difficult. That typically includes people who are working full-time, parents or caregivers without flexible childcare, and anyone living in a part of Florida without convenient access to in-person treatment. We schedule group blocks in the evening, rather than during the day, as a deliberate choice for exactly this reason — we built it around a normal workday, not around the program.

It’s also a common path for patients stepping down from our in-person partial hospitalization program or outpatient treatment who are returning to work or family life but want to continue treatment without restarting from scratch in a lower-intensity format.

Who Is Virtual IOP Not Right For?

Virtual IOP isn’t designed for everyone, and being upfront about that is part of how we provide the right level of care. Patients at higher risk of relapse, or who need close, consistent monitoring through in-person drug and alcohol testing, are generally better served by an in-person level of care. There, our staff can observe and respond to changes in real time rather than between scheduled check-ins.

For these patients, our in-person PHP or outpatient programs typically offer the structure and oversight that a virtual format can’t fully replicate.

What Happens After Virtual IOP?

Completing Virtual IOP isn’t the end of treatment; it’s a transition point. Most patients move into our aftercare support, continuing individual therapy and recovery support at a lower level of intensity as they rebuild day-to-day routines.

Some patients may find that virtual care isn’t providing enough support as they progress. For them, stepping back up to an in-person level of care, such as our PHP or outpatient treatment, remains an option.

What Does Virtual IOP Cost, and Is It Covered by Insurance?

We accept the same insurance plans for Virtual IOP as the rest of Bright Futures Treatment Center. That means we accept all major in-network providers, excluding Medicare, Medicaid, and Aflac. Our admissions team can verify a patient’s specific drug rehab insurance coverage before treatment begins.

For patients without applicable insurance coverage, our private pay rates range from approximately $500 to $1,500 per week. The exact price depends on the track and level of care. Rates are flexible, and we offer extensions for patients who need more time at any level of the program.

What Makes Bright Futures Virtual IOP Different?

Plenty of Florida providers offer some version of virtual IOP, but few combine all of the following in one program:

  • Our groups run five days a week, not just three, for patients who want or need the more intensive track
  • We accept MAT, evaluated case-by-case, rather than excluded outright
  • We’re in-network with all major providers except Medicare, Medicaid, and Aflac
  • We offer a full 30-to-90-day structure, so the program scales from a single 30-day level up to the full continuum, rather than locking patients into one fixed length
  • We provide virtual drug testing with mouth swabs mailed to the home, keeping real accountability in a remote format
  • We build virtual medical appointments, not just therapy, into the program
  • We keep private pay rates flexible, with extensions available for patients who need more time at any level
